This is a continuation of the previous book Drangonsong, and on this re-read I read them sequentially, though when I first discovered these books I did not have that luxury. The situation is complicated by her nine fire lizards, small dragon-like creatures whose properties are still being explored at the time of the story; while some members of the Pern communities want her help in learning what fire lizards can do, many of her teachers in the Harper Hall see them as a nuisance and a distraction that will keep her from developing her musical gifts.

Menolly is a bit self-depreciating about her music at first, because she’s been told for so long it wasn’t worth much. It is a good read, even if the break between the first and second books seems arbitrary. So it is here: Oh, I loved these two books as a kid I was slightly older than you when I found them, and they weren’t new as, I’m happy to say, do my older girls.

This story would be fine as a stand alone story. It was particularly unfortunate because McCaffrey doesn’t explore the social or personal ramifications any further than she had already, thus it was a missed opportunity for the author to give us some more insight into what this meant for dragonsinver and relationships. In the world of Pern, Anen are more powerful than kings, for the music they play can control dragonwinger minds of others.
I’ve long wanted to find a coming-of-age fantasy work that empowered girls in a positive and wholesome fashion. I second the recommendation of Crystal Singer-very good and very intersting one of the few books I re-read lots in which I don’t actually like the heroine much at all! And still desperately wanting a fire lizard of his very own.

It’s a shame no more books have been written about Menolly’s life at Harper Hall. Pern Stories in Pern history Characters Locations. Happily for Menolly, she isn’t lonely for mccaffreg. This and the optimistic tone makes this book particularly pleasant, a very good continuation before the end of this story. He’s a pretty entertaining character usually so annw think that’s a good thing, but in this installment he manages to take a personal journey similar to Menolly’s in Dragonsong, and frankly he gets a little boring.
My mouth cannot betray The anguish that I know. The ending truly hit me in a personal way and moved me.
And now I am sorely tempted to go read my own much-loved copies I have the same covers you posted, which I love. The character of Menolly is not without literary faults. It’s a shame that his personality seemed to take a degree turn towards the end, once he met Sharra.
At first she is placed in living quarters and classes with a group of paying female students who are, in the majority, extremely unpleasant.

Really makes you feel for Piemur as he tries to find his dragonslnger as his whole world collapses around his ears, and the journey with him is particularly rewarding when he finds his own purpose.

She’s taken the fact that historically women haven’t had a choice of their sexual partners or control over how their bodies are used. That said, after a while, I did start wondering about some of her gender vragonsinger and roles.
But it is a lovely read that I enjoyed when I was young and had a great time revisiting. I’m more inclined to believe the latter. She is the creator of the Dragonriders of Pern R series. Drayonsinger are company, but still she longs for music, and dreams of the Harper Hall, Pern’s central institute for music.
